Worried woman finds wild fawn tucked in her yard, clever commenters help her and the baby stay safe with proper care

Nature and the city have always been at odds with each other. One slowly pushing the other further and further into crisis. And this has led to more than a few occurrences where animals from the wild have had to venture into cities and cross paths with us homebody hoomans.

Usually, you might expect to bump into a seriously hungry predator whose prey has been scared away from the city limits. But the woman in this story was lucky enough to have a rather wholesome encounter that might make you think twice about whether we should be bringing animals into our cities. For what this woman found, was that there was a creature, who looks at us hoomans not as a meal or a threat, but as a safety net. So safe in fact that they are willing to leave their babies with us, under our pawtection. If only there was more love and trust in the world like this.

    forage. The mom should be back with the baby by the evening -- if she doesn't come back for a couple of days, or if the fawn's ear tips start to curl (which would indicate dehydration), then call a wildlife rescue organization.

  • Well, if you did not know what to look out for if your yard ever becomes fawn approved, you most certainly do now. The funny thing is that without knowing what the curled ears mean, you could so easily take it as an additional attribute of cuteness. You learn something new every day.

    dchap1⚫ Happened to me once. Looked into it. Mom dears leave their kids somewhere safe while they go find food in more dangerous areas. Then come back to collect the kids. Best to leave the fawn alone and it'll be just fine.

  • Gosh, what a tense situation to be in when you first find a fawn. Having to figure out how long it might have been there, whether or not you should do something about it. And ultimately, that you have to leave it to its own devices for a while to see if mama comes back. It is a whole undertaking.

    TheTrueGoatMom Oh my!! Yesterday I was hanging sheets and pillow cases on the clothes line. Saw a red blur at my periphery. Baby deer had dropped in the taller grass 20 feet from me. I dropped my pillow case and froze. Mom came trotting by, snorting. I went slowly into the house and watched from the window! I love the deer around me. I feed the birds and always put seed on the driveway for the deer. (They eat out of the feeders anyway, don't come at me!) Last year, i watched a set of twin fawns

    echoshaunt we have a mama and baby using our little garden as a nest, they dont care when we drive past or go to take out the trash. and also there is doug (might be a female im no biologist) but he likes to chill in the back yard with the birbs and squirrels by the feeder (he is lazy)
